Schedule a task

Scheduling a task in MaxScheduler is the main activity. First you need to have entries in the List view (bottom blue area). This is done manually or through importing.

Scheduling is done using your mouse. Click on a List entry and hold down the mouse button. Drag the task to the location where you want to place the item. The column represents a resource and the rows are time slots.

Shift down a block of scheduled tasks

Sometimes a resource like a machine breaks and you need to shift down the entire column of tasks to reflect when tasks can continue to be done. We have added a feature to accommodate this situation. The move may seem really awkward at first, once you get the hang of it, it will feel natural and intuitive.

i) Save the current schedule through File | Save, just in case.

ii) Schedule a couple of jobs consecutively under the same column (resource)

iii) Select the first scheduled job, by moving the mouse cursor over the job, click AND hold down the left mouse button

iv) Hold down the CTRL key

v) Drag and drop the first job within the same column

vi) Release the mouse button. Next let go of CTRL key.

vii) The consecutively scheduled job should drop down on the schedule by the amount you rescheduled the first job

Squeeze in a task

In some cases you may have an existing schedule with tasks slotted. You may want to place a task within a consecutive block of scheduled items. This can be done with our squeeze feature. The move may seem really awkward at first, once you get the hang of it, it will feel natural and intuitive.

i) Save the current schedule through File | Save, just in case.

ii) Schedule a couple of jobs consecutively under the same column (resource)

iii) Select a job from the List View, by moving the mouse cursor over the job, click AND hold down the left mouse button

iv)Hold down the SHIFT key

v) Drag and drop the task to the area where you want it inserted, squeezed in. For positioning between consecutive jobs, aim for the top job.

vi) Release the mouse button. Next let go of the SHIFT key.

vii) The block of consecutive tasks should shift down enough to accommodate the inserted task. You may need to be make a finer drag/drop for perfect alignment

This feature can also be used to squeeze jobs between resources, columns.
